Our Story
Why we love what we do
Paws In Motion, LLC, is a dog training and boarding facility located in Newport, NH. We provide 1-1 training for specific issues; day school for basic obedience; day care for exercise and socialization; classes for beginning training, tracking, puppies, etc.; and overnights for when you are away. We believe in the tool box philosophy. Meaning, each dog is different, and what works for one dog may not work for another. We utilize whatever tool we believe is best for your dog and the situation first, and progress from there. We will never incorporate anything that will harm your dog mentally or physically. Any method or tool we apply to your dog, is one that we have used on our own dogs. This is not magic though. It requires hard work, consistency, knowledge, and probably most importantly, collaboration.
You are as important as we are in your dogs’ progress. We can apply a strategy here that works great, but if not applied and followed through at home, will not have much effect in the long term. We are partners. We look forward to working with you to help you and your dog with whatever situation and problem you may have. Our promise to you is that we will do everything in our power to provide a safe, healthy, happy, and productive environment for your dog and that we never stop learning about dogs and what methods, procedures and strategies work best for your dog. We believe this to be a lifelong venture.
Sandy has been a dog lover her whole life and has been working with dogs for decades in various roles. Her past consisted of working in several different Veterinarian offices as a Vet Tech, in two different dog rescues as an animal care attendant, and at the Humane Society as a volunteer. From there she opened up Paws In Motion as a mobile pet-sitting and dog walking service in 2009 and operated the business on a part-time basis. Her final role prior to turning Paws In Motion into a viable, full-time, brick and mortar operation was as a professional dog trainer in Concord, NH. There she honed her skills in individual training, running group classes and doggie day school. In July of 2020, she and her husband Tim decided that it was time to take her knowledge to the next level and that’s how the 429 Sunapee Street in Newport location came to be.
Today Sandy takes on a majority of the training duties at Paws In Motion. She is excited to be doing what she has always wanted to do and enjoys the challenge of teaching her clients (dogs and humans alike) what they need to know to thrive in their relationships with each other. She is passionate about helping any dog that is in need and Paws In Motion, with the collaboration of Wags and Wiggles dog rescue in Newport, usually has a rescue or two on premises that is being trained in order to re-home at some later point. Sandy also has experience training Thunder (One of Tim and Sandy’s personal dogs) in Shutzhund and is currently pursuing IPO1 status. Thunder also competes in nose-work trials and Paws In Motion conducts nose-work classes for those interested. Tim and Sandy have also employed the services of their pack of personal dogs to assist them in socializing client dogs who may have behavioral issues. Maple and Smokey, their two Golden Retrievers, specialize in helping newcomers feel welcome.
Tim has been around dogs his whole life and has a deep connection with them. However he never thought he would be involved in the ownership of a dog training and boarding facility. He earned a degree in Math from UNH and has always had an interest in numbers. Because of that, he anticipated staying in the corporate world his entire career while Sandy ran Paws In Motion by herself. His career consisted of decades of success in call center management with some wins and losses in real estate. He manages the 3-Family property that they own, currently has his real estate license, and has had his share of life lessons in business. These lessons serve as the groundwork for his current business philosophy of providing exceptional customer service, at a fair price, while running an efficient, profitable, systems-oriented company that is continually challenging itself to become better.
In January of 2021, Paws In Motion reached the point of needing more help. Tim and Sandy analyzed the #’s and agreed Tim should leave his full-time W-2 position to join Sandy in running Paws In Motion. Since then, Tim has taken the lead in running the operations of the company as well as the Day Care portion of the business. He also assists in the 1-1 training of the dogs, under Sandy and his brother Tom’s mentorship (Tom runs ThinBlueLineK-9 in Williston, VT) and he couldn’t be happier. He loves being able to utilize his operations background while working with and continually educating himself about all aspects of dog training. What he loves most though is working through each day, side by side with Sandy, to figure out the best way to create a safe, happy and productive experience for each dog. His goal each day is to deliver each dog back to their owners with an appropriate amount of exercise, and a little better trained than the day before.

“My Aussie, Milkyway, has been going to Paws In Motion for several months. Wow!! What a difference Sandy and Tim have made. Milkyway was very high strung before Sandy entered into his life. She provided the proper training and care. His temperament/behavior has shifted to a much calmer and well-behaved pup. We had a challenge on our hands. Thanks to Paws In Motion, Milkyway is on the right track. Milkyway loves visiting Sandy and his pup buddies! I would highly recommend Paws In Motion for your fur babies. Thank you Sandy and Tim for loving our pups with all your heart and taking such great care of them. Paws In Motion is Milkyway’s forever second home!”
“Bryan and I started taking BO, our labradoodle, to Paws in Motion when Bo was around 5 months old. Bo would jump, pull aggressively when we walked him, and needed basic obedience as well as socialization skills! We did a 1:1 meeting with Sandy and Tim and then we joined BO into the doggy day care/day school. Within weeks we noticed Bo’s behavior shifting. He was listening better, he wasn’t jumping as much, and he was listening to our basic commands. Sandy sent us a picture of her 13 year old son walking BO only 3 months into bringing BO to her training facility. This was with us only bringing him 2 days a week for 3 months! He has come such a long way! Bo is now 8 months old and is able to walk, listen, and not jump on our guests. Bryan and I couldn’t be happier at Paws in Motion and would recommend anyone looking to train and/or socialize your doggos! Sandy and Tim have both made this experience personal and wonderful. We get updated pictures, we get videos throughout the day and it left us reassured that BO was in great hands! They take the time to talk with us & make sure we are meeting and striving for the needs for BO in his training process! We will continue to use Paws in Motion for BO & recommend you do as well!”

They consistently go above and beyond to ensure you are satisfied and comfortable with the care they provide. If you are looking for premier daycare and boarding you need go no further than Paws In Motion. Be rest assured your pet baby will be in loving hands.”
“Paws in Motion is the best! In addition to being wonderful with the pups, they are communicative and accommodating with us humans! We started dropping off our little yellow lab puppy for daycare when she was 4 months old and loved knowing that she was getting a good balance of play and training while she was there. Sandy and Tim provide lots of updates during the day so we can see how much she is enjoying herself. I always know my puppy is in great hands when she goes to Paws in Motion! Highly recommend!”

“Sandy and Paws in Motion have been a life saver. We were fighting a losing battle with Otter our 6 month old German Wirehaired Pointer and I had started to believe it had been a mistake to get this puppy 4 months earlier. I’m not a first time dog owner and have always trained my own dogs, but logistics are different this time and I simply did not have the time or patience a very active, willful GWP puppy needs. Willful and stubborn with the attention span of a gnat this little guy never even slept outside his crate, no matter how tired he got he was in constant motion. I was so disheartened having planned for this puppy for two years. I finally decided something had to change, I started looking into daycare so at least he got more exercise. After meeting with Sandy we went forward with a plan to not just do day care but day-school. He has been going to PIM twice a week for a little over 5 months and now my 11 month old Otter is turning into a well socialized, well trained dog that I can enjoy and be proud of. At not yet a year old he still has his willful moments and I best not leave any food out for him to get a hold of but I see him turning into a dog that 6 months ago I would not have believed possible. Otter loves going to PIM and has gotten the dog to dog socialization that is so important for a young dog and that Covid had made impossible to do on my own. Otter also loves his lessons one on one with Sandy. She treats each dog and owner as individuals working toward what each needs and wants, never pushing a pre-established one size fits all program. Sandy keeps introducing new skills and challenges while reinforcing the basics he learned early on. I would not hesitate to recommend PIM to any dog and owner at any level of training.”
“Sandy has been watching and training my new pup now for years. My dogs love her and we could not have done it without her. We highly recommend her for your dog training.”
